Spring Fungi Abound!

Spring in Kentucky is the perfect time for finding fungi because of the moist, warm conditions.  All the mushrooms below were photographed in my yard after a few days of wet weather.  There must have been thousands of them!  How many mushroom varieties can you find in your yard?  What are the best fungi finding months in your area?

Common Psathyrella

Unable to identify

Possibly Bleeding Mycena

Horse Mushroom

Unable to identify

I'm thinking this could be a fairy ring!

These two fungi were found near a creek on a nature walk.

Possibly Changing Pholiota

These were tiny balls of bright neon orange! I tried and tried to get the brilliant color to show up on my camera.

I’ve told you many times before the love affair I now have with mushrooms and other fungi after researching and writing the A Fungus Among Us NaturExplorers unit.  It offers you ideas and information galore for studying fungi!  I’m pretty sure you’ll be fascinated with them, too, after diving into the unit!

I too love finding all the different kinds of mushroom & lichen among us. Thanks so much for writing a Fungus Among Us what a fun unit!!! I was also very happy to see you can not id all the different varieties. I seem to have issues iding mushroom, clouds, and rocks. Thanks again and happy mushroom hunting!!!
