Incredible Creeks

Creeks are a favorite nature study topic for so many people.   Their amazing beauty and unique essence keep us coming back for more.  Whether you’re in the mood for active and exciting study or peaceful ponderings, the creek is the perfect place to suit any style.

A vast amount of living and non-living treasures await as you follow the meandering paths carved out by the star of the show – flowing water.  Learn just what amazing power this water holds as you explore Incredible Creeks.

The outdoor nature study section in this unit is huge!  You’ll not only discover the power of water, but investigate rocks, erosion, freshwater animals, and the health of a creek.  You’ll dig deep into the riparian zone learning about its protection, and the abundance of plants and critters who live near the creek.  Get wet or stay dry – you get to choose how to complete the activities!

At home, get hands-on as you complete experiments to learn about watersheds and the formation of pebbles.  You’ll be inspired to make models, build food chains and complete mapping projects.  Complete super-fun research projects on any topic that strikes your fancy ranging from animal classification and wetlands to river towns and dams.

This is our biggest study to date and includes 13 notebooking pages.  On your busiest days, pull out a notebooking page and go!  Scavenger hunts, comparison charts, graphing exercises, recording sheets and more can be added directly to your nature journal or science notebook upon completion – and they’re cute to boot.

Any season is a great time for studying and enjoying creeks!

These are links to specific titles that we have suggested where we ask you to do your own internet search because of copyright.  We’re hoping this will be an acceptable compromise!  There are often other books we have suggested to go along with the art, composer or poetry suggestions.  They are already included in the “recommended book” section, so we chose not to link them again.

As always, if you come across a great link or additional idea for any of these areas, please let us know and we’ll add it right away!
